The Secretary General of the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE), Ana Plaza, and the President of the Japan-Spain Business Circle, Jorge Lasheras, signed the Cooperation Agreement between the two organizations in Madrid.

In order to jointly foster and develop business and financial relations between Spain and Japan, the Secretary General of the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE), Ana Plaza, and the President of the Japan-Spain Business Circle, Jorge Lasheras, signed a Cooperation Agreement in June.

In a context of growing investment opportunities for Spanish companies in key sectors in Japan, this agreement intends to promote bilateral relations between the countries, analyzing business opportunities, and providing ideas about aspects of mutual interest. It also arises to support business development in both directions.

Financial relations between Spain and Japan

Commercial exchanges between Spain and Japan have undergone a notable transformation in the last few years. Exports of goods increased from just 20% of total exports in 2005 (when Spanish exports were 1.167 billion Euros and imports were 5.75 billion Euros) to 76.76% in 2015 (with Spanish exports valued at 2.41 billion Euros and imports at 3.218 billion Euros).

In any case, the rapid growth is notable from 2005 to 2015. Despite the crisis, exports to Japan doubled. As for imports, they decreased by nearly 50%.

Japan-Spain Business Circle

The Japan-Spain Business Circle (CEJE) is the meeting point for Japanese and Spanish businesses with the goal of strengthening financial, business, and cultural relations between the two countries. It works for Japanese companies located in Spain and Spanish companies in Japan or with commercial ties to the Japanese market.

Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations

Founded in 1977, the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE) has the voluntary participation of two thousand companies and freelancers in all sectors, linked through more than 4,000 base associations.

The Confederation directly links 200 area-based and sector-based organizations at the autonomous state and province level. This allows for the companies to be dually represented: by the business sector to which they belong and by the area where they are located.
