CEJE会長が日本・カタロニア委員会の総会に出席

Last Friday, January 27th, Mr. Jorge Lasheras, president of the Japan-Spain Business Circle, attended the Plenary Meeting of the Catalonia-Japan Committee, in which an annual overview of the Japan 2020-2023 Plan was made. The Committee is the main tool for monitoring and coordinating Catalonia’s relations with the Asian country within the framework of Plan Japón, which frames the institutional collaboration of the Government with the Consulate General of Japan in Barcelona for more than 10 years and aims to strengthen ties between Catalonia and Japan.

The event was welcomed and presented by Her Excellency Mrs. Meritxell Serret, Counsellor for Foreign Action and European Union, and Mr Yasushi Sato, Consul General of Japan. Ms. Serret stressed the Government’s willingness to “continue collaborating and contributing to the response to major global challenges by working intensely, with perseverance and humility.” For his part, Mr. Sato, celebrated “the growing interest in Japan in Catalonia”, especially in the cultural and business fields. The balance of the year 2022 reflects this growth with figures.

Subsequently, the balance of different sectors involved in the Plan Japón was examined: the culture group, the business group, the tourism group, the universities and research group and the interior/health group.

Plan Japón now straddles four consecutive plans and reflects the mutual commitment of more than a decade of institutional relations. The Plan Japón 2020-2023 is currently in force, the fourth consecutive plan of the Generalitat, which adds to those of the periods 2009-2011 (which was the first country plan of the Department of External Action and Open Government), 2012-2015 and 2006-2019, which marked the tenth birthday of the plan. This continuity of over more than a decade has consolidated the stable framework with the Consulate General of Japan in Barcelona, with whom the Government maintains permanent contact.
