The ambassador of Spain to Japan highlights business opportunities for Spanish companies in the Japanese market

The ambassador of Spain to Japan, Gonzalo de Benito, highlighted business opportunities for Spanish companies in the Japanese market on May 31 at a meeting of business leaders and entrepreneurs at Casa Asia. In its mission to foster bilateral relations between the two countries, a large contingent from the Spain-Japan Business Circle (CEJE) attended the event. Also present at the event was the consul general of Japan to Spain, Hiroyuki Makiuchi.

Ambassador Benito, former Secretary of State of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, emphasized that Japan “is the third largest economy in the world, and the fourth country in direct foreign investment.” Therefore, he said, Spanish companies can find interesting business opportunities in some sectors of the Japanese market such as renewable energy, fashion, consumer goods, and automotive. He also called on the companies present to establish partnerships with Japanese companies to access other countries in which Japan is willing to invest, “such as Central or Southeast Asia.”

The ambassador also mentioned the nearly 600,000 Japanese tourists received by Spain in 2015. As he explained, this number of tourists plus the new direct flight between Madrid and Tokyo planned for October, will help “our country’s prospects in Japan.”
