Partners’ lunch with Nacho Cardero, Director of El Confidencial

The Círculo Empresarial Japón España (CEJE) has initiated a series of lunches with personalities from different fields to discuss current, interesting and important topics for the development of business activities.

At the second lunch, held on June 12 at the Círculo Ecuestre, members had the opportunity to meet and talk with one of the most important journalists in the country, Mr. Nacho Cardero, director of Confidencial.

At the beginning of the lunch, Nacho Cardero addressed a few words to the attendees. The journalist shared his perspective on the current political situation, highlighting the difficulty of governing under the present conditions due to the political weakness that characterizes the current Spanish legislature. Cardero also addressed the situation in Catalonia, indicating that the pro-independence “procés” has lost strength, and that now the concern of Catalan citizens is focused on the economy, healthcare and politics in general. “Nobody knows what is going to happen in Catalonia or how it will end” argued the journalist.

Regarding the economy, Cardero offered an optimistic view, stating that Spain is in a good situation, and that the unemployment rate has improved, as well as inflation is decreasing. The journalist also commented on the current situation of the press in Spain and defended that in order to guarantee “quality and investigative journalism”, it must be supported mainly by the subscribers of the newspapers, independent from the public authorities.

At the end of Nacho’s speech, attendees were able to ask questions about different current issues affecting the country’s politics, the economic activity of companies and the future of journalism.
