The Catalan pharmaceutical company Uriach announced on Tuesday the appointment of Luis Cantarell as the new chairman of the board of directors of Uriach. Cantarell will replace Joaquín Uriach Torelló, who has held this position since 2012. Cantarell becomes the first president of Uriach not linked to the founding family and has extensive professional experience as CEO or CEO of the European and American divisions of the Nestlé group. He was also a member of the global steering committee and the promoter and creator of the Swiss company’s global healthcare business. With this appointment, Uriach intends to promote the process of professionalization of the company and has created a Council of Owners that replaces the Family Council and which will be chaired by Enrique Uriach Torelló. The decision leaves the day-to-day of the company in the hands of top-level professionals, Cantarell as president and Oriol Segarra as CEO, while the owners assume a collegiate supervisory role.
