On 24 February, the Ordinary General Assembly of the Japan-Spain Business Circle (CEJE) was held at the Círculo Ecuestre de Barcelona, a key annual event to take stock of the 2025 financial year and define the lines of action for the coming year.
Following the formal constitution of the Assembly, the annual accounts for 2025 were presented and approved by the members. The activity report highlighted the intense agenda carried out during the year, with 15 economic and cultural activities: lunches and discussions with members and prominent figures, participation in institutional events, the celebration of the Catalonia-Japan Day, the presentation of the Business Climate report, and the celebration of the 9th Keicho Awards. Subsequently, the action plan and budget for 2026 were approved, which includes a continuous calendar of institutional, business and cultural activities throughout the year, including meetings with diplomatic representatives, collaborations with strategic entities and the celebration of the 10th edition of the Keicho Awards.
In the institutional section, the Assembly heard from Ms Akiko Shikata, Consul General of Japan in Barcelona, who highlighted the strength of bilateral relations and the role of the CEJE as a bridge between the two countries, emphasising opportunities for collaboration in areas such as innovation, digitalisation and technology.
At the end of the Assembly, Mr Ferran Rodríguez, Director of Infrastructure and Biomedical Engineering at Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, was invited to present the new Campus Salut Clínic–UB project, promoted in conjunction with the University of Barcelona. He explained that this is a strategic project with a horizon of 2035 that will integrate healthcare, teaching, research and innovation into a single ecosystem, with an estimated surface area of 300,000 m². The new campus aims to become an international scientific and biomedical hub, strengthening the health axis of the Diagonal and consolidating Barcelona as a European centre of knowledge and healthcare innovation.
The day ended with a dinner at the Círculo Ecuestre itself, which allowed members to exchange views and strengthen the internal cohesion of the association.
