The Minister of Agriculture and the Ambassador Japan meet to commemorate the second anniversary of the EU-JAPAN agreement

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, met today with the Japanese Ambassador, Kenji Hiramatsu, with whom he has discussed matters of interest in agri-food for both countries. The meeting takes place on a day that marks two years of the economic association agreement between the European Union and Japan, a country that in recent years has become a priority trading partner for Spain.

This agreement has allowed an increase in trade between both countries. Specifically, Spanish olive oil exports to Japan have grown by 211% in volume since the 2010/2011 campaign. In the 2019/2020 campaign, this Asian country has been the fifth destination in value and the sixth in volume of this food, with 46,758 tons, worth 139 million euros. By category, the item referring to extra virgin olive oil stands out, which accumulates almost 70% of the total exported tons.
